20 Years of Poza Salon

How a Dream Built in Charlotte Became a Home for So Many

Poza Salon on Park St. Charlotte, NC 20 Years agoTwenty years ago, we signed a lease on a tiny house on Park Road with more confidence than business experience.

There was no corporate backing, no investors, no blueprint. Just the two of us, and a belief that Charlotte needed a salon that felt warm, welcoming, and genuinely inclusive.

Back then, Charlotte was growing quickly, but many salons still felt intimidating or exclusive in one way or another. People often felt like they had to fit a certain image to belong.

We never wanted that.

From the beginning, our philosophy was simple: whoever walks through our doors should feel comfortable being themselves. No judgment, no pretense, no “type” of client we cater to. Just good people, good conversations, and great hair.

That idea became Poza Salon when we opened on June 6, 2006.

Finding Our Home in Myers Park

In 2013, we moved into the house on Crescent Avenue in Myers Park that many of you now know as Poza.

It immediately felt right.

There’s something special about this neighborhood. It has history, personality, and a real sense of community. Over the years, many of our clients have become friends, neighbors, and extended family. We’ve watched people move to Charlotte, get married, raise children, change careers, go through hard seasons, and celebrate major milestones, all while sitting in our chairs.

Some of the kids who had their first haircuts here are now adults coming in for appointments of their own. That’s hard to wrap our heads around sometimes.

Charlotte itself has changed tremendously over the last 20 years too. When we opened, the city felt much smaller. Now people arrive here every day from all over the country looking for connection and community. We’re grateful that, for many people, Poza has become one of those places.

What 20 Years Really Means

Zahava and Pooran, 20 Years of Poza Salon, Charlotte, NCTwo decades in this industry teach you a lot.

It teaches you that hair is rarely just about hair. People come into salons carrying stress, excitement, heartbreak, uncertainty, confidence, insecurity, and everything in between. Over the years, we’ve had thousands upon thousands of real conversations with people who trusted us enough to let us into their lives for an hour or two.

That trust means everything to us.

We’ve also had the privilege of watching stylists grow inside these walls, from nervous new graduates into incredibly talented artists and professionals. Seeing that growth has been one of the most rewarding parts of this journey.

And yes, we’ve done a lot of hair along the way: haircuts, balayage, color transformations, extensions, weddings, major life-event hair, breakup hair, “I need a change” hair, all of it.

But what we’re proudest of is the atmosphere we built around it.

What We Hope People Feel Here

Charlotte has so many talented salons now, and we genuinely respect that. This city has incredible people in the beauty industry.

But the thing we hear most often from clients is something surprisingly simple:

“I just feel comfortable here.”

Honestly, that’s the goal.

We want Poza to feel welcoming whether you’re 19 or 79, brand new to Charlotte or born and raised here, trying something bold or just wanting a trim after a hard week.

We’ve worked hard to create a team culture where people feel taken care of, not rushed through, not judged, not treated like a transaction.

That part matters to us more than anything else.

Thank You, Charlotte

To everyone who has supported us over the last 20 years, thank you.

Thank you for trusting us with your hair, your stories, your families, and your time. Thank you for recommending us to friends, sticking with us through busy seasons, and helping this little salon grow into something much bigger than we ever imagined.

And to the people who are new to Charlotte and still searching for their places and their people, we’d love to meet you.

You can find us at 2314 Crescent Avenue in Myers Park.

We’ll be here.
